Want to stay warm? Want to extend your scuba diving season? Then dive dry. A dry suit seals you off from the water and keeps you comfortable, even in surprisingly cold water. There is some incredible diving here in New Zealand that can get even better in colder months. Becoming a dry suit diver allows you to expand your boundaries and dive more places, more often.

The first thing you’ll discover is which dry suit style and accompanying undergarments are right for you and the diving you’ll do. Then you’ll learn how to take care of your dry suit. During two dives, in addition to a confined water dive, you’ll practice:

  • Putting on and taking off your dry suit with minimal assistance.
  • Mastering buoyancy control using your dry suit.
  • Dive safety procedures when using a dry suit.

You must have your own Drysuit, you can purchase one from us if you do not have one already. You can hire the rest of the scuba equipment for the duration of the course for $100.

Prerequisites:

Like many PADI courses, the Drysuit Specialty course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development (you will be given a course manual for you to study, independently prior to your pool session) to understand what changes when you dive with a drysuit
  • 1 x Confined Water Dive to get familiar with diving in a drysuit and to learn new skills
  • 2 x Open Water Dives to practise your skills and start exploring!

The course typically takes place over two days*:

  • First Day:
    • Pool session - 08.30 - 12.00
    • 1st Sea Dive - 13.00 - 16.00
  • Second Day:
    • 2nd Sea Dive 13.00 - 16.00

BBQ at the shop after your sea dives!

*Please note that if you are renting a drysuit from us for the course, to ensure we have the right size available, you will need to come into the Dive Wellington shop so we can get your measurements at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the course to allow time for us to source a suit if required.

You can start your course right away when you purchase "Start NOW".  You will be sent an eLearning code, a link to the eLearning web page, and instructions on how to access the online theory content.

We will be in contact to discuss course dates and options.

In order to complete the course, you will still need to finish any remaining training elements, including medical forms, pool and sea training, if included. You will need to pay for the remainder of the course before your in water training commences.

First - purchase your course online.  Next, we'll get in contact and give you dates, and your course information pack.  This pack includes all the course details, online training information (if applicable), medical forms, etc.

  • On the medical form, you will need to answer a few questions. Please read the form carefully before filling it out.
  • If you answer YES to ANY of the questions, please follow the instructions on the form. You may be required to gain clearance from your doctor before we can take you diving.
  • If the answers are all NO, you don't need to see a doctor.  Please get in touch if you have any questions.  You can find the form here.
  • If your course includes online training, you can start right away with your online training code.
