The PADI Advanced Open Water course is a great way for qualified divers to gain valuable experience in a supervised manner.

As an Advanced Open Water student you will take part in five dives, each aiming to give you experience and skills in different types of diving. Two of these dives are done from our boat (weather dependant).

The Navigation and Deep dives are required, with the other three chosen by the group. These five dives & theory sessions will give you the confidence and ability to dive in similar conditions.

Gaining this certification also qualifies you to dive up to 30m.

Prerequisites:
The Advanced Open water course has two main components:
  • Knowledge development (studied online, independently prior to the first open water dive) to give you an introduction to the various areas of diving that you will be exploring
  • 5 Open Water Dives - Navigation and Deep, + 3 chosen by the group*. Other dives can include Night, Wreck, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Fish ID, Search and Recovery, UW Photography, Boat and more.

*please note that the sea conditions will affect the dives that are available on the day

The course typically takes place over a weekend (2-3 days, depending on the time of year and weather constraints).

Saturday: 08.30 - 16.00

  • Introductions, paperwork and theory review
  • 2 sea dives
  • Debrief, log dives and post dive BBQ at Dive Wellington

Sunday: 08.30 - 17.00

  • 3  sea dives
  • Debrief, log dives and post dive BBQ at Dive Wellington

Extra day:

  • A back up day to complete the course dives should the class be unable to finish over the weekend or the class choses the Night dive. This will be arranged with you by Dive Wellington.

You can start your course right away when you purchase "Start NOW".  You will be sent an eLearning code, a link to the eLearning web page, and instructions on how to access the online theory content.

We will be in contact to discuss course dates and options.

In order to complete the course, you will still need to finish any remaining training elements, including medical forms, pool and sea training, if included. You will need to pay for the remainder of the course before your in water training commences.

First - purchase your course online.  Next, we'll get in contact and give you dates, and your course information pack.  This pack includes all the course details, online training information (if applicable), medical forms, etc.

  • On the medical form, you will need to answer a few questions. Please read the form carefully before filling it out. If you answer YES to ANY of the questions, you will need a doctor to sign the form stating you are fit to learn to dive. If the answers are all NO, you don't need to see a doctor.  Please get in touch if you have any questions.  You can find the form here.
  • If your course includes online training, you can start right away with your online training code.
