The PADI Advanced Open Water course is a great way for qualified divers to gain valuable experience in a supervised manner.

As an Advanced Open Water student you will take part in five dives, each aiming to give you experience and skills in different types of diving. Two of these dives are done from our boat (weather dependent).

The Navigation and Deep dives are required for Advanced certification. The other three dives available will be based on the time of year and diving conditions on the day, but typically include Peak Performance Buoyancy, Boat, Wreck and Night (winter only).

If you have other dives that you would like to complete just let us know and we will look at making it happen for you,(please note that additional costs may apply).

These five dives & theory sessions will give you the confidence and ability to dive in similar conditions.

Gaining this certification also qualifies you to dive up to 30m.

Prerequisites:
The Advanced Open water course has two main components:
  • Knowledge development (studied online, independently prior to the first open water dive) to give you an introduction to the various areas of diving that you will be exploring
  • 5 Open Water Dives - Navigation and Deep, + 3 other adventure dives*. Other dives can include Night, Wreck, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Fish ID, Search and Recovery, UW Photography, Boat and more.

*please note that the sea conditions will affect the dives that are available on the day

The course typically takes place over a weekend (2-3 days, depending on the time of year and weather constraints).

Saturday: 08.30 - 16.00

  • Introductions, paperwork and theory review
  • 2 sea dives
  • Debrief, log dives and post dive BBQ at Dive Wellington

Sunday: 08.30 - 17.00

Extra day:

  • A back up day to complete the course dives should the class be unable to finish over the weekend. This will be arranged with you by Dive Wellington.

Due to the ongoing risk of COVID 19, to ensure our safety and yours, we have changed things around a little here at Dive Wellington.

Customers must wear a face-covering inside at all times, and keep a 2m distance between other customers and staff where possible.

If travelling for a course/dive club, we will have very limited transport in the Dive Wellington van, but we recommend taking your own private vehicle to the site.

Masks, snorkels and regulators will be soaked in disinfectant after each use to avoid transmission.

As always, if you are unwell or have cold/flu-like symptoms, please stay home and get tested.

Please help keep everyone safe by following these regulations.
