The Advanced Open water course has two main components:
- Knowledge development (studied online, independently prior to the first open water dive) to give you an introduction to the various areas of diving that you will be exploring
- 5 Open Water Dives - Navigation and Deep, + 3 other adventure dives*. Other dives can include Night, Wreck, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Fish ID, Search and Recovery, UW Photography, Boat and more.
*please note that the sea conditions will affect the dives that are available on the day
The course typically takes place over a weekend (2-3 days, depending on the time of year and weather constraints).
Saturday: 08.30 - 16.00
- Introductions, paperwork and theory review
- 2 sea dives
- Debrief, log dives and post dive BBQ at Dive Wellington
Sunday: 08.30 - 17.00
- 3 sea dives
- Debrief, log dives and post dive BBQ at Dive Wellington
Extra day:
- A back up day to complete the course dives should the class be unable to finish over the weekend. This will be arranged with you by Dive Wellington.

*Please note that if you have some or all of your own equipment, it needs to be appropriate for the local diving environment and in a safe condition to use on the course. Dive Wellington reserves the right to inspect and test your equipment prior to the course starting, and has sole discretion on whether it can be used on the course. You can start your course right away when you purchase "Start NOW". You will be sent an eLearning code, a link to the eLearning web page, and instructions on how to access the online theory content.

In order to complete the course, you will still need to finish any remaining training elements, including medical forms, pool and sea training, if included. You will need to pay for the remainder of the course before your in water training commences.
First - purchase your course online. Next, we'll get in contact and give you dates, and your course information pack. This pack includes all the course details, online training information (if applicable), medical forms, etc.
- On the medical form, you will need to answer a few questions. Please read the form carefully before filling it out.
- If you answer YES to ANY of the questions, please follow the instructions on the form. You may be required to gain clearance from your doctor before we can take you diving.
- If the answers are all NO, you don't need to see a doctor. Please get in touch if you have any questions. You can find the form here.
- If your course includes online training, you can start right away with your online training code.
