We are the only dive shop in Wellington running our own charter boat. We run charters most weekends and there is no better way to discover some of Wellington’s best diving, whether its a wreck dive, catching a crayfish or sightseeing.
Our charter boat “Southern Comfort” is a 7.5 metre pontoon. Surveyed for ten divers and powered by twin 150 horse power outboards, Southern Comfort offers a smooth and dry ride to Wellington’s offshore dive sites. Fitted with the latest electronics and safety equipment, your days diving will be an enjoyable experience. Our skippers are highly experienced and know all the best sites.
Several of our dive sites are over 18 metres in depth and require more experience, if in doubt please ask our staff if the dives will be suitable. We are required to sight your dive certification card before joining the charter. Most charters are two dives unless otherwise stated.
Whether you have your own dive gear, or want to use ours, Wellington's best diving waits for you!
The Wreck of the F69 Frigate Wellington
HMNZS Wellington was a Leander class frigate of the Royal Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy. Originally commissioned in 1969 for the Navy as HMS Bacchante, she joined the RNZN in 1982. She was decommissioned in 1999.
13th November 2005 the vessel was scuttled to create an artificial marine reef and a world class recreational dive site.
The F69 Wellington lies in 21 meters of water, approximately 400m off the coast of Island Bay, just a 5 minute boat ride from Dive Wellington. She has broken into three pieces but remains a popular dive site within the marine reserve and plenty to see.
